Crime and Public Safety
Lisa was raised in our community and will use her experience to enact comprehensive measures to make our neighborhoods safe for everyone.
When Lisa was Mayor in 2023, East Palo Alto recorded zero homicides, the first in city history. As Supervisor, she will work towards:
- Preventing violent crime and holding violent criminals responsible
- Stringent gun control measures — from comprehensive background checks and mental health evaluations to gun buyback programs and mandatory waiting periods
- Ensuring our police, sheriffs, firefighters and first responders are well-funded and prepared to protect our community
- Fiercely advocating for victims of crime and domestic violence
Affordable Housing and Rising Cost of Living
Lisa will work to create more affordable housing opportunities for everyone.
As Mayor, Lisa oversaw the creation of hundreds of affordable housing units in our community. As Supervisor, she will:
- Work to create more housing opportunities specifically for families and public employees, like teachers, sanitation workers and firefighters
- Support smart planning to create housing at every income level and near existing bus and train routes
- Work to create more housing opportunities for everyone, including younger generations, so we can help keep families in San Mateo County
- Support neighborhood business corridors and our housing goals with mixed-use developments that provide housing above ground-level retail shops
Homelessness
Lisa believes the county should do more to help unhoused families and residents living in vehicles, shelters and on the streets.
As Mayor, Lisa helped move people out of homeless encampments by providing wrap-around services, understanding their needs and gaining their trust. She supported the Governors measure to create more permanent supportive housing for homeless veterans with mental health or substance abuse disorders. As Supervisor, she will:
- Work to create more affordable housing options
- Expand emergency financial assistance and services to help keep people in their homes
- Ensure the county invests in expanding access to safe shelters while people await placement in permanent homes
Reproductive Rights and Healthcare
Lisa will protect our public health clinics and stand up for our reproductive freedom.
Lisa is 100% pro-choice and led the San Mateo County effort to enshrine the right to choose in California’s constitution. As Supervisor, she will:
- Protect our public health clinics and stand up for our reproductive freedom
- Support investing in San Mateo County’s public health system so everyone can access quality, affordable healthcare
- Fight for expanded mental health services so no one falls through the cracks
Education
Lisa supports providing high-quality education for all students in San Mateo County.
As a mother of three, Lisa put her education on hold so that her three children could afford their college degrees. Then, while working full-time and serving as Mayor, Lisa put herself through college, achieving her business degree and propelling her professional growth. Lisa’s remarkable journey led to her current role as the Senior Vice President of the Silicon Valley Leadership Group. As Supervisor, Lisa will:
- Ensure everyone, like her grandson Camden, has access to local, high-quality schools
- Advocate for fair distribution of resources to ensure all schools receive adequate funding, regardless of the wealth of the community they serve
- Work to bridge the digital divide by ensuring all students can access necessary technology and internet services
- Support training programs that help educators address the diverse needs of their students
- Promote the availability of comprehensive support services, including counseling, mental health services, and health care
- Support initiatives that address food insecurity, housing instability, and other socioeconomic barriers that affect students' ability to learn
Social Equity
Lisa will stand up for marginalized communities and be a voice for everyone.
As Mayor, Lisa displayed strong leadership during the pandemic, ensuring every community had the resources to stay safe and healthy. She also held PG&E accountable for power outages that disproportionately impacted disadvantaged communities. Her advocacy resulted in securing rebates. As the Senior Vice President of Inclusion and Belonging for the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, she continues her commitment to achieving real results on accountability, equity, and inclusion through collaborative efforts with companies. As Supervisor, Lisa’s approach will be no different. She will:
- Work to ensure every community in San Mateo County has access to the same resources and opportunities
- Propose and support laws and ordinances that address systemic inequalities
- Ensure city budgets allocate funds equitably
- Actively engage with all communities to understand their needs and involve them in decision-making
